Introduction——Laser Ceilometer

Laser Ceilometer emits a laser pulse from the ground to the sky and analyses atmospheric composition of different heights by receiving back scattering of the laser pulse, which can analysis of cloud height information. And the water vapor component contributes greatly to back scattering. It is working mode and its precision design and manufacture that the Laser Ceilometer works with superior performance and reliability in almost all weather conditions. 

● Structure

The HuaYun company Laser Ceilometer’s probe height is 15 km. Laser Ceilometer uses advanced single-lens design so that its performance exhibits excellent at the lower atmosphere as well. It not only can detect and analyze the data of three clouds, but also have good performances on vertical visibility and cloud monitoring during precipitation period. The laser receiving unit has adopted the most advanced technologies currently to achieve a high detection accuracy, which can be used to quickly detect and measure light clouds under the solid clouds, with a certain of penetrability.

The product has adopted modular designs, which is easy to install and maintain. And the device has fault analysis function and comprehensive self-diagnostic capability. The figure below is a schematic view of the overall structure. Complete working unit can be taken out as a whole, other parts are a   bracket and a lightning protection circuit box.

● Working principle

       How it works: to emit laser pulses to the atmosphere above the ground, and then to detect intensity of light scattered back of different atmosphere levels. The data collected after 67ns pulse emission is on behalf of 10m height atmospheric information, the data collected after 133ns pulse emission is representative of 20m height atmospheric information, in turn , the data of 49933ns is corresponding to the height of 7490m.

● The structure of the Laser Ceilometers Observation System

 Laser Ceilometer observation system consists of the following components:

(1) The cement foundation of Ceilometer

Requirements: poured cement, length 600mm width 400mm depth 400mm ; Countertop outcrops 100mm, smooth surface, and no big stones in the concrete surface of 100mm (in order not to affect the drilling to install expansion bolts).
